BPM Versus EAI

Why You Need BPM

Reason #5
Change your processes without needing to change out your software

Packaged applications are typically inflexible as they were designed to address and deliver a very specific set of functionality.  By their very nature the processes contained within those packaged products are not designed to be easily changed.  Unfortunately this conflicts with one of the key business agility challenges today... the ability to change your business processes as market dynamics or competitive situations change.  Flexibility and agility are key success factors in every business today.

Along with purchased packaged applications many organizations are also dealing with custom ‘hard-coded’ applications that were developed internally that require an army of programmers and consultants to redesign or reprogram them.  Modifying these processes is problematic as it entails determining which and how many pieces of the programs need to be changed.  As programs and processes are interconnected it is a risky proposition to make quick changes to mission critical programs without extensive testing.  Most custom programs once implemented are better left alone for fear that any changes might introduce errors.

A BPMS, on the otherhand, is designed to embrace and simplify change.  And rather than process change being exclusively an IT issue, Savvion BusinessManager brings the line of business staff into the process by delivering role specific tools to the people who own and manage the business process.  With Savvion BusinessManager business analysts and IT work hand in hand to monitor and analyze their processes making changing those processes as easy as dragging and dropping new steps into a process flow diagram and immediately running simulations to validate those changes.  Once a process model it changed and saved in the process repository it can be put into production immediately.

Savvion BusinessManager addresses the business technology imperative to establish an enterprise process architecture, a critical step towards achieving real process improvement and management.   The goal is for corporate processes to become a manageable asset. Savvion systems provide managers with unique, real-time visibility into ongoing business operations ... not simply via metrics and reports, but by providing a framework that empowers companies to innovate while managing change.
