Although most BPM tool suites are inexpensive, in the current economic climate no expense can escape scrutiny and moving towards BPM will normally have to be justified based on benefit.

The discussion presented in this paper provides an approach to looking at the benefits BPM can provide, as well as some of the costs that may need to be considered. This paper also recognizes that there are two basic levels of improvement projects. These are problem/specific activity improvements which are fairly narrow in scope and broader transformation level improvements. BPM supports both levels, but adoption justification will be different for each level.
