  Foundations of Savvion BPM Suite

Savvion BPM Suite 7.0 was released more than a year ago and version 7.5 will be released in Q4 2008. While each version provides more and easier to use functionality and new product components, certain things do not change from version to version – they are invariants of our product philosophy and strategy. We call these foundations of our products.

This whitepaper describe these foundations and explain why they are important and how we achieve them in our products.

  Managing Project Oriented Processes

Over the years, as a result of working on many BPM (Business Process Management) initiatives worldwide, we have realized that many processes have project characteristics, demanding a unique approach in their management. We refer to these processes as Project-Oriented Processes (POP).

Understanding Usage Patterns An Enterprise BPMS Must Support

BPM is one of the key drivers for the success of your business. Business Process Management Systems (BPMS) provide you with tools and technology to deliver the values of BPM. Effective enterprise deployment of BPMS requires an understanding of different usage scenarios. An enterprise class BPMS must support these usage scenarios, in addition to being scalable and highly reliable.

This whitepaper discusses seven important and frequent usage scenarios. Savvion BPMS addresses all these usage scenarios to meet needs of your enterprise.

How to Stop Talking and Start "Doing" BPM Today

Many companies know business process management can provide great value to their organization, yet have not actually implemented BPM because they don't know how to make the first step. Questions arise such as: Where do I start? Which department should own the project? Can I begin without a budget?

This whitepaper guides you through the top 5 barriers in order to get you actually 'doing'. Once you know how to take that first step, it's easy to start with something simple that still has a major impact.

The intended audience for this whitepaper includes:

  • Business owners or analysts
  • IT professionals or strategists
  • Anyone familiar with BPM who has yet to take the next step

Five Ways to Beat the Recession with BPM

Our current economic situation raises the question: how can BPM help companies weather this storm? In this article, we highlight five ‘must have’ attributes for a company to endure. The article will also show how BPM, if implemented properly, can deliver these attributes within a few months and make the difference of survival or demise.

The core elements of a business operation are its business processes, or the ways in which it organizes and uses resources to achieve its desired results. With BPM, an organization can cooperatively define its business processes, integrate them with its existing software systems, and deploy them as applications accessible via the Web. Managers and their teams can monitor, analyze, control and improve the execution of those processes in real time. BPM is relevant more than ever today. Here are 5 key areas where BPM can help companies thrive during these testing times.

  Savvion and 6 Sigma

Savvion BusinessManager is an ideal system for defining and implementing Six Sigma processes and artifacts. Here's why Savvion BusinessManager is best suited for Six Sigma.

Defining the Benefits of Adopting a BPM Approach

Although most BPM tool suites are inexpensive, in the current economic climate no expense can escape scrutiny and moving towards BPM will normally have to be justified based on benefit.

The discussion presented in this paper provides an approach to looking at the benefits BPM can provide, as well as some of the costs that may need to be considered. This paper also recognizes that there are two basic levels of improvement projects. These are problem/specific activity improvements which are fairly narrow in scope and broader transformation level improvements. BPM supports both levels, but adoption justification will be different for each level.

  The Case for BPM

Companies are locked in a constant struggle for operational improvement and through it, cost reduction. This paper looks at Business Process Management focused change and the flexibility it provides.

  Savvion Energy Demand Response

Energy demand is growing worldwide and so are its prices. The increase in supply is not keeping up with the increase in demand and the reserve margins are alarmingly low. There is a lot of pressure on the utilities and the system operators to focus on real time balancing of this demand and supply.

Some of the regulatory commissions are moving towards smart meters that can monitor the energy usage during different times and have a two way communication with provider and consumer to operationalize the Demand Response idea. The Idea of Demand Response (DR), simply put, is where the consumer can voluntarily opt
to give away her consumption of energy during peak demand periods in return for certain incentives. It is like bidding in real-time to entice a consumer to let go her consumption in return of financial benefit.

BPM-enabled Solutions for Collaboration between Sponsor and CROs

BPM-enabled solutions for managing clinical trials

This paper describes challenges in effective execution and tracking of Clinical Trials, including collaboration between Sponsor and CROs.

Bruno Gagnon, Senior Director of Clinical Operations at Roche and Pejman Makhfi, VP of Solutions at Savvion describe ways to address those challenges by utilizing BPM (Business Process Management) solutions in managing clinical operations.

They explain how BPM-enabled solutions facilitate adaptive trials approach and provide means to continuous process improvement using methodologies such as Six Sigma.

Innovation in Supply Chain Management with BPM

This whitepaper describes how a Business Process Management (BPM) enabled supply chain management solution can:

- help improve operational efficiencies for manufacturing companies
- help organizations enable end-to-end process visibility across organizational boundaries
- address the needs for efficient inventory management
- increase responsiveness of the supply chain
- reduce operating costs

To BPM or not to BPM

To BPM or not to BPM, that is the question in every process manager's mind today. With the state of the global economy today, everyone is asked to do more for less.

In this whitepaper, you will learn about:

  • considerations
  • approaches
  • Benefits analysis

  • to make an informed decision whether or not to implement BPM in your organizations.

      Practical Business Process Improvement

The promise of BPM is to make your business more efficient and deliver that ever elusive continuous improvement. This continuous improvement, though very desirable and conceptually simple, has been a challenge for all businesses. The key question remains “How can I know what needs to be improved?” And once they know something needs improvement, how to act on that. All agree that in order to stay competitive, business processes need to be improved continuously. But how can we make this happen?

Making Intelligence Actionable: Business Process Management and Business Intelligence

For more than 15 years, Business Intelligence (BI) has lived at the intersection of people and data with the noble goal of making people and organizations smarter. The premise behind the growth of the tools and the BI category is simple: Information is good.

But, for many organizations, the ability of individuals, teams and departments to apply the intelligence they’ve gathered from BI into an actionable plan or process isn’t possible. The opportunity is to turn that information into action. This is where Business Process Management (BPM) picks up and BI leaves off by making intelligence actionable.

This 7 page guide shows how BPM makes metrics actionable and why BPM is an important part of any Business Intelligence strategy.

Addressing Clinical Trial Challenges & Opportunities with BPM

    Speaker: Roy Devine
VP, PLS Drug Safety & Clinical Solutions
Webcast live, Wednesday July 22, 2009 1:00 PM Eastern

In today’s market, the life sciences industry is facing a number of challenges. The challenges range from the expiration of patents, escalating cost of clinical trials and increasingly stringent new regulatory guidelines. Due to these factors, the pharmaceutical, CROs and medical device companies must re-evaluate their clinical trials processes and look for efficiencies, faster time to market and reduce costs. In addition, the companies must quickly update their processes and polices to comply with new standards. Clinical trials are a particularly costly and time-consuming part of the R&D process, frequently accounting for over 40% of total R&D spending.

More than half of clinical trials are behind schedule by one to six months. And there is a tremendous cost involved with every day that a trial is delayed, not just on the product value if the investigational medicine gets to market, but on the actual cost of running a trial on a daily basis which is estimated to be about $35,000.

Savvion offers a contemporary solution to help manage and automate the operations aspect of clinical trials that can cut the cost and time by up to 33%. The Savvion Life Sciences Foundation enables automation of critical processes such as site set-up, site management, patient enrollment, safety data distribution, grant management, patient information management, clinical quality document management and subsequent improvements of the business.

    11:00am PST

Speaker - Ajay Khanna, Sr. Director, Product Marketing & Management, Savvion, Inc.

Case Management is fast becoming one of the more important usage patterns of Business Process Management (BPM). Although this is a common element, surprisingly, it is not delivered by most Business Process Management Systems with the specialized out-of-the-box functionality that is critical to your success.

This usage pattern demands sophistication for the work management. It must support multiple scenarios at once such as; customer contact centers with hundreds or thousands of agents working and resolving cases, trouble tickets, orders, inquiries, or fraud reports.

Process instances are generally short lived, possibly ending with one call, but the volume can bring your entire organization to a grinding halt.

In this webinar you would learn about the challenges in Case Management and how BPM successfully addresses them.

    This webinar will highlight:

    • Understanding the unique process challenges in Case Management at support centers, call centers, and similar environments
    • How BPM addresses and solves these challenges
    • How a BPM based solution can ensure your business has the Visibility into the Process, the Ability to pinpoint bottleneck and problem areas, and the Agility to quickly address issues before problems escalate
